You need an existing public HTTPS MCP endpoint. During this pilot, use only synthetic or public non-sensitive data. The URL must have no embedded credentials, query string, or fragment. Private network addresses are not accepted.

Save your API key now. The API returns it only for a short time; this page holds it until you refresh and does not save it. Treat it as a password.
1. Add Mithrandir to VS Code
Open MCP: Open User Configuration in the VS Code Command Palette. Paste this into your mcp.json. If you already have servers, merge the new mithrandir entry and input with the existing configuration.
Start the server in VS Code and paste your key when prompted. The copied configuration contains no secret. For another HTTP MCP client, use the gateway URL and Authorization: Bearer <your key> shown above. Technical setup.
2. Check your MCP connection
Test the server and discover its tools here. This sends initialize and tools/list; it never runs a tool. During a trial, the setup requests count toward its free call allowance.
3. Approve read-only tools and costs
Approve only tools you know have no side effects and whose server declares readOnlyHint: true. Your USD cost per upstream call is an estimate you supply, not a verified provider charge.
4. See what actually repeats
In VS Code, ask your agent to call the same approved read-only tool with the same arguments three times, then refresh below. The requests must reach this gateway. Mithrandir compares the actual upstream responses; changing results or session-bound calls cannot qualify. You can choose to subscribe at that point. For a reliable ROI recommendation, continue Observe: the decision-ready standard requires 100 eligible calls over 24 hours, 10 reusable opportunities and 80% cost coverage. Setup requests do not count as eligible reads.
5. Decide whether to subscribe
A verified repeat shows technical eligibility; it does not prove the $24.50 plan will save you money. You may buy now if you know your workload, or wait for the full ROI assessment. Approved, stable, stateless reads can use included hits with a standard HTTP MCP client. When the allowance runs out, calls reach your upstream at no Mithrandir reuse fee. Optional prepaid overage requires a fresh Idempotency-Key and per-call X-Max-Credits budget.
